Along a line: 0 ^ $ g_ and |

Jump to either end of a line, its first or last real character, or an exact column.

3 drills

  1. Either end of the line: Jump to the highlighted edge of the line: 0 (column 1), ^ (first non-blank) or $ (last character).
  2. Ignore trailing spaces with g_: These lines end in trailing spaces you can't see. Land on the last visible character with g_.
  3. Straight to a column with |: Many style guides (and git commit summaries) cap a line at 50 characters. Jump to column 51, the first character over the limit, with 51|.
