Q: replay the last recording

Replay your newest macro without naming it, even once per selected line.

?how it works

In Neovim, Q replays the register you recorded most recently. Record with qq…q (or any register), then press Q to run it again; 3Q runs it three times. You never have to remember which register you used.

Q isn't quite @@: @@ repeats the last register you ran, so it only works after one @q. Q works straight after recording.

In linewise Visual mode, Q (and @ plus a register) runs the macro once on every selected line, starting each run at the beginning of that line. Select the lines with V, Vip or VG and press Q: no counting, and the macro doesn't need a j at the end.

Mnemonic: Q for quick replay. Watch out: Q always means the newest recording, even a throwaway one.

Nin neovim

In Vim, Q switches to Ex mode; Neovim moved that to gQ (:h vim-differences). Visual Q and @ running per line arrived in Neovim 0.10 (:h v_Q-default).

Record once, then Q: Fix the first line while recording a macro that ends by moving to the next line, then fix the rest with a counted Q.
Visual Q: once per line: Record the change on the first line (no j needed), then select the remaining lines with V and press Q. Counts are switched off for this one.
