v, V and Ctrl-v: select, then act

Highlight characters, whole lines or a rectangle, then press an operator.

3 drills

  1. Select across a line break: Delete the aside that runs onto the next line so the text matches the target. Start a selection with v right where you are, move its end down and onto the closing character, then d.
  2. Whole lines with V: Uppercase the two lines that are uppercase in the target. Select them with V and press U.
  3. Cut a column with Ctrl-v: Delete the column that is missing from the target. Select it as a block with <C-v>, stretch it down and across, then d.
